General Information Accommodation Ratings To assist with the selection of your accommodation we have created our own rating system allowing you to compare each property. These are personal ratings offered by our people from their own experience and should therefore be used as a guide only. These ratings may alter throughout the year due to a change of circumstances. Moderate accommodation with a reasonable range of rooms and facilities, with rooms furnished to a comfortable standard. Superior standard of accommodation with a wide range of rooms and facilities, and a higher standard of service. First Class accommodation with an excellent range of facilities and services. Accommodation in this rating is considered among the best in the country. A half star is noted when the level of service and facilities falls between two grades. Grading accommodation can be quite subjective and generally speaking the standard and services will be in line with the price paid. Please check with your Travel Consultant to ensure you get the accommodation that best fits your needs. Child Policy: Please note bedding configuration varies between properties and in some cases with different room types within a property. Some hotels also offer family bonuses and specials. Your Travel consultant will help you choose the hotel to best suit you and your family’s needs.

Thailand Set within a lush tropical landscape, the Kingdom of Thailand is a kaleidoscope of cultural and sensory contrasts. A proud Buddhist nation, tranquil, resplendent yet always compelling, Thailand has long delighted in their distinctive culture. Diversity lies with the irresistible combination of breath-taking natural beauty, inspiring temples, renowned hospitality, glorious spa treatments and ruins of fabulous ancient kingdoms. The beaches attract people from all over the world, the shopping on offer also draws in the crowds, the nightlife lively to say the least and the delicious cuisine is definitely something to write home about. You could visit Thailand dozens of times, but you’d have to work awfully hard to run out of options. Thailand truly is a magical destination with something for all.

6 Tips for your Holiday

Thailand is a fantastic year-round destination for festivals. Loi Krathong Lantern Festival occurs in November and falls on the full moon so people celebrate by floating beautiful lotusshaped lanterns atop the water. Visit in April and take part in the Buddhist festival of Songkran when entire cities take to the street for a colossal water fight. Head north in February to the Chiang Mai Flower Festival when the city flourishes.

1 / KEEP CALM & CURRY ON From regionally diverse curries to bowls of street-side noodles, Thai cuisine makes every mealtime an indulgence, but the food’s akin with the temperature – hot! Ease yourself in gently with Bangkok flavours; central Thailand is where you’ll find the sweeter Thai Green Curry, while Massaman is commonly referred to as the ‘training curry’ because it's so mild. When you're ready to add some heat, head north and order Kaeng Pa – Jungle Curry, this one boasts an almighty 60 chilies per serving! For something extra special, visit The Sea Gypsy Village in Rawai, Phuket. With a sea-fronting row of vendors selling fresh seafood, and restaurants eager to prepare it. Simply purchase your fish and choose how you’d like it cooked.

2

3 / A FESTIVAL FOR ALL

2 / BAGGING A BARGAIN Firstly, cash is king in Thailand and makes all those purchases easier. Secondly, bartering is key to surviving Thailand’s chaotic market culture. Start by knocking 50% off the asking price and go from there. Advertised prices in shops are to be adhered to but you’ll still find a variety of goods surprisingly cheap. In Bangkok alone, visit Rod Fai Night Market, located in an abandoned railway station and Chatuchak Weekend Market is one of the world’s largest bazaars.

5 / BEACHSIDE BLISS Combine the white of the sands with the green fronds of tropical palm trees, add in the golden sparkle of the sun dappling on the blue ocean, and it’s highly likely you’ve made your way to one of Thailand’s gems – the beach. For a picture-perfect paradise, head to west Railay Beach near Ao Nang. Accessible only by foot, there's champagne sand and tranquil water and it is famed for its stellar rock climbing, with over 700 routes bolted into its cliff facades. The gently curving seabed at Hua Hin Beach makes it a safe option for swimmers, with jet skis and banana boats on the water adding to the activity list.

4 / KEEP IT COOL You’ll be wanting to cool off from the heat and you’ll want a suitable pool to do it. Some offer swim-up bars to keep you cool inside and out, while you might want a shallow pool for the younger guests or one with a few waterslides. Direct access to the pool from your room is a possibility or even your own private plunge pool or Jacuzzi is a great idea if it’s just you and a plus one travelling. Find yourself an infinity edge pool where you can daydream, relax and enjoy the amazing vista on offer.

6 / WELLNESS & RELAXATION Massage and medicine is synonymous with Thai culture. Day spas and spa resorts adorn the country and there are various temples that provide massage in its most authentic form. Wat Po in Bangkok offers ancient therapies in a communal open-plan pavilion, which is in-keeping with local culture. Traditional Thai massage doesn’t require the removal of clothes so ensure you’re wearing something loose-fitting. Beach masseuses can usually be found frequenting the beaches between November and April, especially on Patong Beach. And then there’s the Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa, situated at the edge of a serene lagoon in Koh Samui. Switch off your smart phone and escape daily life. With detoxes, spa treatments and yoga programs, health is the primary focus here.

Experience

Bangkok

Shopping, temples, tuk-tuks and smiles, Bangkok is a city that pulses with

chaos to give you a sensory overload. Vibrant and sprawling, it’s steamy and ritzy and glittery all at the same time with nowhere else in the world quite like it. Known to the locals as the ‘City of Angels’, Bangkok is a madcap mix of traditional Thai culture, merged with modern western framework of high-rise buildings, motorways and shopping malls. Not to be missed sights include the enormous array of Wats (temples), with their glistening glass mosaics, gold statues and towering Buddhas. If you’re heading to Bangkok for the shopping, you will not be disappointed as markets and malls dot the city. A shopping highlight is Asiatique, located on the riverfront boasting 1500 boutiques and 40 restaurants and the prices are cheap cheap cheap! Whatever you plan to do, you will not be bored in Bangkok – that’s why this wonderful city has won the most visited city two years in a row. It’s a city not to be missed.

THAI COOKING SCHOOL Thai cuisine is one of the country’s cultural heritages and is renowned internationally. Spend half a day discovering true Thai tastes and enjoying traditional and practical Thai recipes that you can take home to impress your friends.

BANGKOK TEMPLES TOUR Visit three of the most famous temples in Bangkok – the temple of the Golden Buddha, Wat Pho with its reclining Buddha and a magnificent monastery built out of white Italian marble. After the temples you’ll stop at a local jewellery and handicraft factory and showroom.

AYUTTHAYA BY RIVER CRUISE The former capital of Thailand, Ayutthaya, is home to many ancient ruins and artworks. Five dynasties have ruled this kingdom until it was destroyed by the Burmese. Picture many Buddha statues and beautiful gardens and you will come away with a true appreciation of Thai architecture.

6

RIVER KWAI TOUR Visit the famous bridge over the River Kwai. Stopping in the local town, you’ll visit the Allied War Cemeteries and museum before taking an hour train ride on the historic Death Railway. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before taking a long-tail boat ride along the Kwai Noi River.

FLOATING MARKETS & SAMPRAN RIVERSIDE Visit an authentic floating market – ‘Damnoen Saduak’, where you will see locals selling everything you can imagine from their boats. The afternoon is full of Thai culture at the Sampran Riverside, where Thai villagers create traditional handicrafts.

CHINATOWN BIKE & BOAT Experience all of the wonders of Chinatown’s frenetic market environment and narrow alleyways by bicycle. See scenes of classical woodenframed homes on stilts, mothers doing their daily washings, and kids splashing away the tropical heat as you cruise along the canals. Finish with a bike ride through Bangkok’s greenery, a pleasant surprise from this sprawling metropolis.

EVENING TUK TUK FOOD TOUR

STREET FOOD TOUR

Enjoy an evening of culinary delights in this exciting city. Jump on your private tuk tuk and whizz around Bangkok for a night of eating and adventure. Experience local street food, regional specialties and sweet surprises. Finish the night in Chinatown for some of Bangkok’s most famous street food.

Eat your way through Bangkok with a selection of street food tastings inspired by famous Chef Gordon Ramsey. Tantalise your taste buds with these musttry dishes and mouth-watering desserts including satay skewers, fish cakes, traditional rice noodles, banana fritters and the old favourite Pad Thai. Save some room for dessert because the banana fritters and mango sticky rice are not to be missed!

EVENING THAI BOXING MATCH Muay Thai (also known as Thai boxing) is the national sport of Thailand and dates back to the 16th century. It is a full-contact martial art where two opponents battle using their fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet. Before fighting, the boxers perform a ritual called the wai kru ram muay to show respect and ask for protection. A must-do in Bangkok, thrilling and entertaining to watch in person.

ROYAL GRAND PALACE & BANGKOK CANALS Take a tour of Bangkok’s canals (or klongs, as they are known locally) by boat. See the serene family homes and temples dotted along the waterways which inspired Bangkok’s reference as the “Venice of the East”. Stop at the Grand Palace complex including the Temple of the Emerald Buddha as well as the Temple of Dawn, or Wat Arun, which is one of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks.

7

Hua Hin

Phraya Nakhon Cave

Explore Hua Hin

Conveniently located just 2.5 hours from Bangkok, the area is lined with

oceanfront resorts and offers a great escape from bustling Bangkok. Combining the attractions of a modern holiday destination with the charm and fascination of an active fishing port, this coastal town has been a favoured summer retreat for Thai royalty since the 1920s. Hua Hin boasts a deep crescent of platinum sand lapped by temperate waters, but there’s more than just beach to this mountain framed head-turner. With seas that are warm throughout the year, frequent dips and shoreline swims are a daily occurrence at Hua Hin. The seabed curves softly and safely so it’s ideal for pint-sized toe-dippers as well as less confident swimmers. For the more adventurous, be treated to jet skis and banana boats, nearby mountain hiking and if you like your transport to be of the hooved-variety, horse trekking is both great value and well supervised. If you’re still thirsty for an activity, kayak the local wetlands or travel 10 kilometres out of Hua Hin and tee off at Black Mountain Golf Course. 18-holes hide amidst Thai jungle and an old pineapple plantation. Because not all beach-goers are beach-goers, they’re golf-goers instead.

Deluxe Sky Pool Suite

8

Cape Nidhra Hotel

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas

Perfectly positioned overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, this impressive property is a member of the reputable Small Luxury Hotels of the World, so a high standard is assured. The prominent location on Hua Hin Beach makes it easy for that morning stroll to make the first footprints in the sand, before sitting down to a delicious breakfast at the Rocks Restaurant and is only a short stroll into the centre of Hua Hin with its famous night markets and entertainment. All rooms encourage time outdoors, each having a deck area with a daybed and a private pool. If feeling social, head to the resort pool, with comfy loungers facing the beach, but if after some quiet time, the reading room or Cape Spa might be more suitable.

Location is one of many selling points at this majestic resort. The spacious grounds and 7 kilometres worth of beachfront are due to it being the original resort in the Hua Hin district. The architecture and charm of another era are combined nowadays with modern features to deliver an experience for the most refined traveller. SPA Cenvaree will impress with luxurious treatments, children will appreciate the playground, kid’s pools and the kid’s club and adults and children alike will be wowed with the choice of dining options on offer. With each wing of the resort offering a pool, there will be a sun lounger waiting for you.

Pattaya

Explore Pattaya

Pattaya lies south east of Bangkok and is only a 2 hour drive away, a perfect spot to add onto your Bangkok stopover.

This is Thailand’s action-packed beach destination, with an array of sporting opportunities both on land and water including golfing, game fishing and scuba diving. Unless of course it’s rest and relaxation you crave, in which case there are beach chairs and umbrellas lining the Pattaya shore, where wandering vendors will cater to your every need: from barbequed shrimp to a foot massage. Pattaya is certainly a Thai beach resort that meets your every need. It’s hot and hectic in Pattaya and you won’t be short of choices in accommodation or dining options, with an excellent range of restaurants helped by a population that has a colourful mix of nationalities and ethnicities from near and far. Make sure you try some of Thailand’s freshest seafood at any of the many seafood restaurants.

Siam Bayshore

Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort

At the southern end of Pattaya Beach, just past the vibrant and entertaining Walking Street, is the tropical hideaway of Siam Bayshore. Established gardens lead to the beachfront, home of one pool overlooking the beach and where cold drinks are served all day. Head back towards the sand in the evening for the delicious BBQ buffet which takes place every night accompanied by live music. Several other dining establishments at the resort provide many different cuisines to tempt your tastebuds. Children will enjoy the water slide at the kid’s pool and mum and dad can relax nearby under the shade of a palm tree.

This unique ‘lost world’ themed resort features a water park that will appeal to guests of any age. Jacuzzi's and a lazy river require minimal effort, whereas the 12 waterslides or lap pool are a different story. Kids will spend hours at Monsoon Island playing with water buckets and dodging water geysers. When you need to refuel, choose from eight dining venues at the resort or catch the complimentary shuttle to the Central Festival Pattaya shopping centre for even more choice. Return to your spacious room at the resort and enjoy the view from your private balcony while deciding on what luxurious treatment at SPA Cenvaree to indulge in.

Experience

Phuket

With white sandy beaches, stunning resorts, luxurious spas and shopping

galore, it is no wonder why Phuket attracts visitors from around the world year after year! Probably one of the most well-known beaches in Phuket, Patong is the central tourist beach with pulsating nightlife centred on Bangla Road. Come here for shopping bargains, literally hundreds of restaurants and great nightlife. Further south are the main resort beaches of Karon, Kata and Rawai, providing a village atmosphere yet in a quieter setting, so plenty of space for relaxation or a great family holiday. North of Patong is the less crowded beaches of Kamala and Surin and just 10 minutes from the airport is Nai Yang, with a laid back atmosphere and away from the crowds.

Elephant Hills

Suggested Combinations Make the most of your holiday by combining your visit to the native natural treasures at Elephant Hills with the stunning beaches and islands of Southern Thailand. The Elephant Hills location amongst the rainforest of Khao Sok National Park is ideally placed to spend a few relaxing days on the surrounding coasts golden sand beaches before and after your adventure. With your pick-up and drop-off to Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi or Khao Lak included with your stay at the Elephant Hills camps, why not explore?

Phuket – Elephant Hills – Koh Samui Combine Thailand’s two most popular islands with your visit to see their national animal. Stay in a village in both, on the beach in both, or try one of each. The well known towns of Patong, Karon and Chaweng Beach will keep shoppers and diners happy, while sleepier villages like Rawai Beach in Phuket, or Lamai on Koh Samui have a more laid back atmosphere to relax in and reflect on your time in the jungle.

Our favourite things to see and do Thai Food – Thailand is justifiably world-renowned for its cuisine and the flavours of Southern Thailand are abundant with fresh seafood and ingredients. There is an array of local eating styles to choose from that can be found in all shapes and sizes, street side stalls to fine dining restaurants. Eat Thai style and order a few dishes to share amongst the table so you can truly experience more of the flavours and local dishes. Cheow Larn Lake – Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and lush rainforest this lake is a hidden gem of Khao Sok National Park. Take a walk into the deep dark jungle in search of native wildlife and creepy crawlies. Nightlife – At night time the areas of Chaweng in Koh Samui and Patong in Phuket come alive and you can pretty much bar hop your way along the beach. If you are staying in the area, stroll along the beach as the sun is going down and find a spot that takes your fancy to enjoy a sundowner. Markets – Offering anything and everything you can imagine, from sunglasses, shoes, bags, hats and artwork, to movies and electronics. This is your chance to put your bartering skills to the test, it’s all part of the cultural experience for anyone visiting Thailand.

Koh Samui – Elephant Hills – Krabi One for the water lovers. Start your journey in the islands, explore the National Park, and finish in the scenic coastal town of Krabi. With your choice of beachfront accommodation in Samui and Krabi, and your Elephant Hills visit including a stay in the floating tents on the shores of Cheow Larn Lake, the water will only ever be a few steps away. Spend time kayaking in the morning mists of the jungle lake and later in your trip the limestone karsts of the Krabi coast can be your playground.

Phuket – Elephant Hills – Khao Lak Contrast the buzzing activity of Phuket, the nature experience of your time at Elephant Hills and quiet relaxation on the beaches of Khao Lak and this combination will tick so many on the right boxes for a full Thailand experience. Just an hour from Phuket Airport, Khao Lak offers a quieter stretch of golden beachfront that is also close enough to spend a day jungle trekking the other parts of the Khao Sok National Park. Enjoy nature at its best.

Water sport enthusiasts rate this area as second to none as it’s all available here. At night time the beach stays alive and you can pretty much bar hop your way along the beach. If you are wanting something a little quieter, head to Bo Phut or Lamai. Bo Phut, a charming beach village, is located on the northern coast of Koh Samui and is one of the few places that retains some of the island's original Thai-Chinese atmosphere. Lamai Beach is the second largest resort area on the island, but offers a more laid back atmosphere. As well as the beaches, Koh Samui’s interior is filled with coconut plantations, rice paddies and some lovely waterfalls, so allow some time to explore this beautiful island beyond its coastline.

Chiang Rai

Explore Chiang Rai

The Golden Triangle is the area where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Locally it is known as Sop Ruak, as it is also where the Mekong River meets the Ruak River. The rivers form the natural borders between the countries.

Chiang Rai is the nearest city to this point, once a hub for the opium trade it is now a laid-back destination with a diverse range of attractions. With hill tribe country on your doorstep, treks and hiking excursions are a drawcard for many visitors. Catch the nightly light display at the clock tower that doubles as an elaborate roundabout. Designed by the same artist is the White Temple, or Wat Rong Khun. Intricate and detailed, it is an impressive Buddhist temple and unique, even for Thailand. At the other end of the scale is Baandam Museum, interestingly weird yet fascinating with art displayed from sources that might call for eyebrow raising. While in town, try the quintessential northern Thai dish of khao soi – soft noodles in a curry broth. There are plenty of coffee bars for that morning shot, most of Thailand’s best coffee beans are grown in the province.
